47.2 × 62.0cm (sheet)

Two impressions of this work are held in the National Gallery of Australia (see artwork description below).

A rare, early work. The imagery in this woodcut — including the woman with the dog, the path to the house and the two huddled, retreating figures — are repeating motifs in Groblicka's work.

Note regarding the date of this print: the National Gallery of Australia has two impressions of this work, one inscribed as 1962 and in an edition of 20, the other (likely a re-print) listed as 1967.

———

An extremely underrated artist, Groblicka was born in Zólkiew, Poland (now Ukraine) and moved to Adelaide with her husband in 1966. As Elspeth Pitt wrote after the artist's death, Groblicka nurtured "a distinctive visual language unlike that used by any other Australian artist".
